A heated swim spa can provide a wonderful opportunity for exercise in the comfortable surroundings of your own home – whatever the weather! Hydrotherapy is a recommended treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including arthritis as well as musculoskeletal injury. Most swim spas feature a segregated design, with a larger swim-spa pool bordering an immersed seating area where friends and loved ones can relax while you enjoy a swim!
Swim Spa Guide
A swim spa, as opposed to a swimming pool or a jacuzzi, uses water jets to create a constantly running current in a pool of water; effectively creating resistance for you to swim against. The force of the current can be precisely controlled, and due to the fact that you’re swimming against a current – you won’t actually move in the pool space as you stroke! This means that you can enjoy all the benefits of a full-sized swimming-pool workout, without having to commit a large amount of space or having to use a large amount of water. As less water needs to be treated by filtration systems, heated and propelled by the jets – the running costs of a swim spa are also considerably cheaper than full-sized pools.
Many people ask about whether swim spas are heated or not. The good news is that they are, and, like the jets, can be precisely controlled. For swimmers looking for a great aquatic workout, a typical water temperature would be between 27 and 30 degrees centigrade; however higher temperatures of up to 40 degrees centigrade can also be achieved for a more relaxing time in the spa. All of this as well as a seating area at the end of the swim spa where friends and family can relax!
Keeping Your Swim Spa Fit and Healthy
The Swim Spas that Aegean install is highly energy-efficient and feature built-in water-filtration systems to keep the water clean, leaving you to just enjoy the spa! To keep running costs as low as possible, it’s generally advised to keep the Swim Spa running, rather than to turn it off completely when not in use; as it takes more energy to heat water that has gone cold than to keep the water at a consistent temperature. In areas that experience sharp winters, ground-level Swim Spas will be able to keep warm for longer (and while using less energy) than standing ones – however, for much of the UK, this won’t be necessary.
We would also advise that Swim Spas that are not in use year-round (such as those only used in the summer for example) are drained before winter – as ice formation can damage the interior components of the heating, pressure and filtration systems.
Aegean Spas can design and install life-changing custom swim spas, and help you make the absolute most out of available space. Find out more about how to keep fit, healthy and well with a Swim Spa by clicking here!
