Chlorine free hot tub water care

In Aegean’s more than 30 years in the hot tub industry we’ve seen many supposed innovations in both hot tub design and hot tub maintenance though in truth little has really changed from the earliest of hot tubs and the need for residual sanitisers in the water to maintain them. Until now.

Innovative

The unique difference with Lotus Fresh is that it is not simply a different non-chlorine chemical that takes a similar approach of oxidising bacteria but it is a smart liquid containing hexagonally structured water molecules that encapsulate not only bacteria but all other water pollutants too.  Whilst chlorine has the power to kill bacteria it cannot oxidise urea or amino acids and instead forms a chemical compound called a chloramine.  It is this compound that gives water a dull appearance, unpleasant odour and causes it to be an irritant to skin and eyes.

Other chlorine-free hot tub water care programmes exist but all have flaws.  It is known that a key breeding ground for bacteria is within the biofilm that forms in pipework and some treatments only focus on the breakdown or prevention of build-up of biofilm.  Whilst this keep the pipework clear, a residual sanitiser is still required to oxidise the free floating contaminants leading to lesser but similar issues as described above.  Other systems are enzyme based which are often initially effective but after 4-5 months bacteria can become accustomed to the enzyme which loses its killing ability and as such we do not recommend it as a long term solution.  In addition enzyme based products do not address the full spectrum of water pollutants.

Kind to skin

Increasingly people are looking to avoid chlorine and other harsh chemicals in the wellness sector.  Hot tub owners who have long used chlorine will have seen the harshness as chlorine gas under the cover breaks down the cover vinyl, eats into headrests and bleaches diverters and air controls.  If chlorine is doing this to your spa parts then think about your skin.  Billions of bacteria live on our skin, which are extremely important for the functioning of our skin as the largest excretory organ of the human body. Chlorine is an oxidizing disinfectant that kills all bacteria. Therefore, with the frequent use of the spa bath, a lot of bacteria on the skin are destroyed. Sometimes, the bacteria do not recover and just die. This changes the skin. Basic functions of the skin, such as e.g. fat metabolism and the removal of contaminants through the skin pores can no longer function properly. It may cause disorders in the moisture content of the skin. It can form eczema and itchy skin. This process forms quite quickly in some people. Sometimes it can take a few years until the skin becomes sick. Lotus Fresh only encapsulates harmful anaerobic bacteria such as Pseudomonas or E-Coli. All other harmless bacteria are not encapsulated and therefore do not die. The skin will therefore not be affected in its ability to function in any way.  In fact, Lotus Fresh has been tested by the proDerm Institute for Applied Dermatological Research which found the skin’s tolerance of Lotus Fresh to be the same as that of fresh drinking water.

Safe

The warm water in the hot tub is an ideal growth medium for dangerous bacteria. The number of bacteria in the hot tub can double every 30 minutes. This leads to very contaminated water in a very short time. The consequences can be skin rashes or other illnesses. For this reason it is important that the water care product reliably stops bacterial reproduction. To be sure that you are protected from harmful bacteria we have submitted our Lotus Fresh system to microbiological testing against the most dangerous bacteria. And the results have been 100% positive.

Usage

The Lotus Fresh Spa product can be used on it’s own to effectively encapsulate bacteria and other contaminants to be caught in the hot tub filters which should be cleaned regularly.  The dosing of Lotus Fresh is based on consistent hot tub use so ideal for day to day bathing.  Occasional heavier use such as parties may require either or slightly longer time to encapsulate the higher level of pollutants or a single use of a non-chlorine oxidiser (we recommend Lotus Fresh Up Fresher as it does not combine with amino acids and does not harm healthy bacteria in the skin).  Typically domestic hot tub owners will use 1.5-2 bottles of Lotus Fresh Spa per year at a cost of £109 each.  Prior to using Lotus Fresh Spa, a biofilm eliminator such as Lotus Fresh System Free should be used to prepare the spa and it is recommended that such a product is used with each water change (usually annually).

Save money

Whilst Lotus Fresh is available as a standalone product, most Lotus Fresh customers wish to use other products in the Lotus Fresh range including System Free, Up Fresher and Filter Clean.  That’s why we have put together an annual subscription pack including 2 x Lotus Fresh, 1 x Up Fresher, 1 x System Clean and 3 x Filter Clean for just £22.37 per month.  This makes Lotus Fresh a lower cost system than other water care programmes promoted as chlorine free and includes useful products such as filter clean that are not included by other programmes.
